Fast!
We welcome yet another revenue source for The City of Anachronism, the Fast Foto drive-up on Main Street near Furd Motors and in the way of operations at the Intermodal Freight Center.
We asked the business' owner, Ms. Fredricka Fulton, whether there's much demand for the quick development of film.
"There will always be demand for the types of services offered by Fredricka Fulton's Fast Foto near Furd Motors. We're not like defunct operations such as Fotomat, where physical film was sent to labs to be developed and printed as pictures within 24 hours.
"We're in the digital space age. We're a modern, hip operation. (Maybe later I'll tell you about my Aunt's hip operation.) Drop off your digital camera, computer memory chip, or cellular mobile telephone, and within a few weeks we'll return your images on nice fresh photo film. You then have the option of taking your film to Walgreen's to be made into pictures. Lord knows how they accomplish THAT magic.
"We benefit the community in other ways. Stopping at our drive-up window brings a halt to Main Street. Community team spirit emerges as the other drivers use voice, horn, and hand signals to encourage our customer to make a 'fast' transaction!"
What about the unusual physical appearance of the building?
"It's intended to be appealingly retro. If you were born in the previous century, you'll recognize that it looks like an instamatic camera. The joke is that the lens is on the wrong side of the camera. Plus, the flash doesn't work."
